Can iPhone battery health go back to 100? Facts and tips

Battery health shows the battery’s chemical wear, and that wear cannot be reversed; no app or setting raises the figure. The only way for battery health to read high again is a battery replacement. You can, however, slow the wear with charging habits and settings.

01Why does it not go up?

A lithium battery’s capacity falls with charge cycles, heat and time. The figure on the Battery Health screen shows this fall. Calibration, fully draining and recharging or apps do not renew the battery’s chemistry, so they do not raise the figure for good.

02Slowing the wear

  1. Optimised Battery Charging. Keep it on under Settings › Battery › Charging; it delays the last part of charging until you need it.
  2. Charge limit. Supported models have an option to stop charging at a lower level.
  3. Keep it cool. Avoid heating the phone in the sun, in the car or with heavy gaming while charging.
  4. Proper charger. Use a sound, compatible cable and adapter.

Menu names can differ slightly by iOS version.

03When to replace it
