- The sensor is on the back, in the side button or in the screen, by model.
- First delete the saved fingerprint and add it again.
- A thick protector makes in-display reading harder.
- Wet or very dry fingers affect reading.
- If it started after a screen replacement, the screen is checked.
01Where is the sensor?
| Sensor location | Common cause | First try |
|---|---|---|
| Back | Scratches, dirt | Clean it with a soft cloth |
| Side power button | Dirt, case pressure | Remove the case, clean the button |
| In-display | Thick screen protector | Use a compatible, thin protector |
02Register your fingerprint again
- Open Settings. Go to Biometrics and password (the name can vary by software version).
- Delete the fingerprint. Remove the saved fingerprints.
- Add it again. Complete the registration by placing your finger at different angles.
- Second entry. Registering the same finger twice can make reading easier.
03When is it a fault?
If re-registering and cleaning do not help, if the fingerprint option is missing from settings, or if the problem began after a drop or screen replacement, the sensor or its connection may be faulty. In-display sensors sit under the screen, so a screen replacement can affect reading. Steps for all phones are in fingerprint sensor not responding; your Huawei model is on the Huawei models page.
