How to fix iPhone notifications not working

01Check Focus first

If a Focus mode such as Do Not Disturb, Sleep or Work is on, notifications are silenced. Open Control Centre and check the Focus button; turn off any active Focus. Also make sure Focus modes are not scheduled to turn on by themselves.

02App notification settings

1. Check the permission. In Settings › Notifications › [app], Allow Notifications should be on.
2. Check the alert types. Lock Screen, Notification Centre and Banners should be ticked.
3. Sound. On the same screen, Sounds should be on.
4. The app’s own settings. Apps like WhatsApp also have notification settings of their own.

03Settings that delay notifications

• Notification Summary. If on, notifications from chosen apps arrive in a batch at set times.
• Low Power Mode. It limits background activity; turn it off in Settings › Battery.
• Background App Refresh. If off, some apps may get notifications late.
• Screen Time limits. If you set a limit on an app, its notifications may be restricted too.

04Final steps

1. Restart the iPhone and update iOS.
2. Update or reinstall the app. Back up the app’s data first.
3. Reset All Settings. Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Reset › Reset All Settings. Your data is not deleted; Wi-Fi passwords and settings are reset.

05If notifications arrive but make no sound
