My phone is bent: what should I do? Work out the cause first

If your phone is bent, first work out the cause: if the screen or back bulges in the middle, the battery may be swollen; if one corner lifts on a flat table, the frame is bent. Do not try to bend it straight at home; the glass back, screen and battery can be damaged.

Key points
  • A bulge can mean a swollen battery; unplug it.
  • Rocking on a table can mean a bent frame.
  • Do not try to bend it straight at home.
  • A bent frame strains the screen and battery.
  • The fix is a frame repair or replacement.

02Why not straighten it at home?

On phones with a glass back, the glass breaks when bent. The screen panel is sensitive to bending; cracks or stains can appear. The battery can also be damaged under pressure. So straightening should be done after the parts are removed, or the frame replaced.

03Checklist

  1. Screen: Any stains, lines or touch problems?
  2. Buttons: Do the power and volume buttons press?
  3. Camera: Is the picture shaking or blurry?
  4. Battery: Any heating or fast draining?

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Can a bent phone be straightened?

Slight bends can be straightened once the parts are removed; a clear bend needs a frame replacement. We tell you at diagnosis.

02

What should I do if the phone is bulging?

The battery may be swollen; unplug it, stop using it and bring it in as soon as possible.

03

Can I keep using a bent phone?

We do not recommend it; a bent frame strains the screen and battery and can lead to other faults over time.

04

Will the repair delete my data?

Data is usually preserved during a repair; still, you need to back up your data before the repair starts (backups are the customer’s responsibility).

Phone works but the screen is black: what to do

If your phone rings or vibrates but the screen is black, the phone is on; the problem is the screen or its connection. Force restart and charge it first. Shine a torch close to the screen in the dark: a faint picture means a backlight fault. If it started after a drop or liquid, the screen is usually replaced.
