- Slight flicker at low brightness can happen on OLED screens.
- Raising brightness a little can reduce flicker.
- On iPhone, Reduce White Point can help.
- Wavering that starts after a drop is a sign of a fault.
- If it shows in a screenshot, it is software.
01Flicker or fault?
| Situation | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Slight flicker only at low brightness | OLED brightness control, not a fault |
| Wavering regardless of brightness | Loose connection or panel |
| Started after a drop | Screen cable or panel damage |
| Also visible in a screenshot | Software or app |
| Only in one app | App problem |
02Reducing low-brightness flicker
- Raise brightness a little. Flicker is more noticeable at very low brightness.
- iPhone: Reduce White Point under Settings › Accessibility › Display & Text Size lets you keep brightness higher while dimming the screen.
- Android: Some models have flicker-free dimming or eye comfort options; menu names vary by model.
- Auto-brightness. Check it so the screen does not drop too low in the dark.
03Hardware wavering
If the screen wavers after a drop, coloured lines appear with it, or it changes when you press the screen, the screen cable may be loose or the panel damaged. Causes of wavy lines are in wavy lines on phone screen, and the screen options on our screen replacement page.
