Broken phone charging port: cost and fixes

If your phone will not charge, the cable sits loosely or it only charges at an angle, the charging port may be broken. First the cable, the adapter and dust in the port are checked; if the port is damaged, it is replaced. The price depends on the model and we send it on WhatsApp.

01Why do charging ports break?

  • Dust and lint. Pocket dust builds up at the bottom of the port so the plug does not seat fully.
  • Angled plugging and pulling. The pins bend over time and the port loosens.
  • Liquid. Moisture oxidises the contacts in the port.
  • Knocks. If the phone falls with the cable plugged in, the port can break off.

02Try these first

  1. Try another cable and adapter. Make sure the phone is the problem.
  2. Look inside the port. If you see dust or lint with a torch, careful cleaning may help.
  3. Restart the phone. Rarely, software can stop charging.
  4. Try wireless charging. If your phone supports it and charges wirelessly, the port is most likely at fault.

Will a charging port replacement delete my data?

Data is usually preserved during a repair; still, you need to back up your data before the repair starts (backups are the customer’s responsibility). We still recommend backing up before you hand the phone in.

Can cleaning fix the charging port?

If dust is the cause, it usually does. If the port is loose, the pins are damaged or there is oxidation, it needs replacing.

How long does a charging port replacement take?

It depends on the model; we tell you after diagnosis. Phones sent by post are generally repaired the same day.
