Green line on a Samsung screen: causes and what to do

A thin green (sometimes pink) vertical line on a Samsung Galaxy screen usually comes from the AMOLED panel itself. Take a screenshot first: if the line is not in the image, the problem is hardware and a software update usually does not remove it. The lasting fix is a screen replacement.

01Start with the screenshot test

Take a screenshot while the line is visible and open it on another device. If the line is not in the image, the panel or connection is at fault; if it is, software or an app is the cause.

02Pinpoint it with colour tests

  1. Open the test menu. On many Galaxy models, type *#0*# in the Phone app.
  2. Colour screens. Red, green and blue screen tests show exactly where the line is.
  3. Exit. Use the back button when you finish.

The test menu may not open on some models or carrier software.
