Cleaning the back of an iPhone: the safe way

Before cleaning the back of your iPhone, switch it off and unplug any cables. A slightly damp, lint-free cloth removes most marks; to disinfect, you can gently wipe hard surfaces with a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol or 75 percent ethyl alcohol wipe. Do not use bleach and do not let moisture into any opening.

  1. Switch it off. Turn the phone off and unplug the charging cable and accessories.
  2. Start with a dry cloth. Remove dust with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  3. Slightly damp cloth. Wipe the remaining marks with a cloth lightly dampened with water.
  4. Alcohol wipe if needed. Gently wipe hard surfaces with a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol or 75 percent ethyl alcohol wipe.
  5. Dry it. Wipe once more with a dry cloth.
