How to find out which carrier your number is on

Since number portability became common, you can no longer tell the carrier from a number’s first digits. You can see your own line’s carrier on the screen and in SIM settings, and look up the current carrier of any Turkish number with the number portability check on e-Devlet.

01Can you tell the carrier from the number?

In the past, the first digits of a number showed the carrier. With number portability, a line can move to another carrier while keeping its number, so guessing from the first digits is misleading.

02Finding your own line’s carrier

  1. Look at the top of the screen. On most phones the carrier name appears in the status bar or on the lock screen.
  2. Open SIM settings. On Android, the carrier of each line appears under Settings › Connections or the SIM card manager.
  3. On iPhone, check the cellular settings. Settings › Mobile Service (Cellular) shows your line and carrier.

Menu names vary by brand and software version. Typing “SIM” into the settings search finds the right section on most phones.

03Checking the current carrier of any number

To see which carrier another Turkish number is on, use the number portability check of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) on e-Devlet. Enter the number without the leading zero.

04If no carrier name appears

If the screen shows “No service” or “No SIM” instead of a carrier name, the problem may be the line, the SIM card or the phone. First try the card in another phone.
