iPhone 11 callers cannot hear you: test the three microphones separately

The iPhone 11 has microphones at the bottom, at the top and next to the rear camera; calls mostly use the bottom one. You can test the bottom one with Voice Memos and the others by recording video with the front and rear cameras. First make sure no Bluetooth device is connected.

02Check these first

  1. Bluetooth. If headphones or a car are connected, turn it off.
  2. Microphone permission. If the problem is in one app, turn on that app’s microphone permission in Settings.
  3. Case and protector. Make sure they do not cover the mic holes.
  4. Cleaning. Clean the holes gently with a soft, dry brush.
  5. Update. Update iOS and restart.

03Repair

If Voice Memos recordings are silent or muffled, the bottom mic or the bottom cable it sits on is faulty; this cable is usually replaced. If no mic works, the audio circuit is checked.
