- The iPhone 11 has two rear cameras: 1x and 0.5x.
- Switch between the lenses to find the faulty one.
- If both are blurry, the camera glass may be broken or dirty.
- Shaking and clicking point to an image stabilisation fault.
- Restart and update iOS first.
01Test both lenses separately
- Open the camera. In photo mode, tap 1x and focus on an object.
- Switch to 0.5x. Move to the ultra wide lens and look at the same object.
- Compare. Note which lens shows black, blur or shaking.
| Result | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Only 1x black or blurry | Wide camera module |
| Only 0.5x black | Ultra wide camera module |
| Both blurry | Camera glass broken or dirty |
| Both black | Camera connection or software |
| Picture shakes, clicking | Image stabilisation part |
02Rule out software first
Close and reopen the Camera app, restart the phone and update iOS. If another app’s camera (for example a messaging app) shows the same problem, the fault is in the hardware. Other steps for a camera showing black are in iPhone rear camera black screen.
03Repair
If the camera glass is broken, often only the glass is replaced; if a module is faulty, that camera is replaced. The options and differences are on our camera and lens replacement page, and iPhone repairs on the iPhone models page.
