iPhone rear camera shows a black screen: what to do

If your iPhone’s rear camera shows a black screen, close the Camera app, restart the phone and switch to the front camera and back. If it continues, or only one lens is black, the camera module, the lens or its connection should be checked.

  1. Close the Camera app. Swipe it away in the app switcher and open it again.
  2. Restart. Turn the phone off and on.
  3. Try each lens. Switch to 0.5x, 1x and, if available, 3x / 5x.
  4. Remove accessories. Magnetic cases, lenses or mounts can affect the camera.
  5. Update. Install any pending iOS update.
