iPhone screen separating from the frame: check the battery first

If your iPhone screen is separating from the frame, think of battery swelling first: a swollen battery pushes the screen out from inside. Unplug the phone and do not press on it. If the battery is fine, the cause may be weak adhesive from an earlier repair or a bent frame; the price depends on the cause.

02What to do right away

  1. Check Battery Health. If Settings › Battery › Battery Health shows a “Service” warning, the battery may be swollen.
  2. Unplug it. Do not charge if you suspect swelling.
  3. Do not press. Do not try to push the screen back; the battery can be strained.
  4. Keep it away from water. A device with a gap has no water resistance.
