Why does a phone screen lift? What to do if it does

If your phone screen is lifting at the edge, the most common cause is a swollen battery pushing it from inside. Drops, heat and adhesive from an earlier repair can also make the screen come away. If the screen has lifted, stop charging the phone and have it checked.

  1. Stop charging. Charging a swollen battery is dangerous.
  2. Do not press. Do not try to push the screen back in.
  3. Remove the case. A tight case puts more pressure on a swollen battery.
  4. Back up. If the phone still starts, back up your data.
