iPhone touch test: 7 checks after a screen replacement

01Why test?

A newly fitted screen may not respond in one area, or colours may look different from before. Spotting these when you collect the phone avoids uncertainty later. Code-free test methods are also covered in iPhone touch screen test.

027 checks when you collect it

1. Drag an icon. Press and hold an app icon and drag it to all four corners and edges; it should not stick.
2. Draw in Notes. Open a new note and draw lines across the whole screen; there should be no breaks.
3. Keyboard edges. Tap the far-left and far-right letters on the keyboard repeatedly.
4. Colour and brightness. Open a white page; there should be no stains, shadows or colour shifts.
5. Proximity sensor. During a call, bring the phone to your ear; the screen should go dark.
6. Face ID. Try unlocking with your face on the lock screen.
7. True Tone. In Control Center, press and hold the brightness slider and check that the True Tone button appears.

03If you notice a problem

If touch sticks in one area, colours are clearly different or a sensor does not work, say so before you take the device. On some iPhone models a replaced screen may show an information message in Settings; this does not affect how the screen works.
