iPhone X touch screen not working: try these first

On the iPhone X, the touch layer is built into the OLED screen; a touch fault means replacing the screen, not a separate part. First force restart, remove the screen protector and update iOS. If touch does not respond at all in one area, the screen needs replacing; Face ID is protected during the work.

01Try these first

  1. Force restart. Volume up, volume down, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
  2. Remove the protector. A lifted or thick protector can block touches.
  3. Update iOS. Software bugs can be fixed with an update.
  4. Mind the temperature. After very cold or hot conditions, leave the phone at room temperature and try again.

02Dead-zone test

Press and hold an app icon and slowly drag it to every corner of the screen. Where the icon drops shows the area where touch does not respond.
