Is it the screen protector or the screen that cracked? Tell in 3 steps

If you see cracks after a drop, first find out whether the screen protector (tempered glass) or the phone’s own glass broke. If you can feel a step at the edge of the protector, the crack is often in the protector. Remove it carefully and check the glass and picture underneath.

011. Feel the edge

A tempered glass protector is stuck on top of the phone’s glass and forms a small step at its edge. Run your finger from the edge of the screen inwards. If the cracks end at this step and do not continue onto the phone’s own edge, most likely only the protector broke.

022. Remove the protector safely

  1. Start at a corner. Lift the least cracked corner with a fingernail or a thin plastic card.
  2. Lift slowly. Peel the protector off in one piece at a low angle.
  3. Mind the pieces. If pieces are scattering, put tape over them first and lift together.
