01What does “display film” mean?
When a repair shop says “the display film has gone”, they usually mean the panel that creates the picture. Thin layers sit on the panel: the polarising film that directs the light, the touch layer and the protective glass on top. When one of these layers is damaged, the picture breaks down.

02Signs of film damage
- A black or purple stain spreading from a corner (often called ink bleed).
- Coloured vertical or horizontal lines.
- No picture while sound and vibration work.
- Areas that look faded or bubbled.
When there is no picture, you cannot tell from outside whether the panel or its cable is at fault; the free diagnosis makes it clear.
03Can the film be replaced on its own?
On most current phones the panel, touch layer and glass are made as one part. So film damage usually means replacing the whole screen. On some older models a torn polarising film can be dealt with separately; we tell you per model at diagnosis.
