Super AMOLED screen replacement cost: how it differs from LCD

On Super AMOLED screens every pixel makes its own light; there is no separate backlight. The panel is different from LCD, so its price is set differently too. If a compatible LCD screen is fitted to an AMOLED phone, the in-display fingerprint sensor may not work; ask about the options before approving.

Key points
  • On Super AMOLED, pixels make their own light; there is no backlight.
  • The panel difference prices it differently from LCD.
  • With a compatible LCD screen, the in-display fingerprint may not work.
  • Colour, brightness and burn-in vary by option.
  • The price is sent by message based on the model and part option.

01What does Super AMOLED mean?

AMOLED is a screen type where every pixel produces its own light. In Super AMOLED the touch layer is built into the panel. Blacks are truly switched-off pixels, so contrast is high. On LCD, the picture is lit by a separate backlight.

BlacksPixel off, true blackSlightly lit
In-display fingerprintCan be supportedUsually not supported
Burn-inPossible with long useDoes not occur

02What sets the price?

  • Model. Panel size, resolution and shape (flat or curved) vary by model.
  • Part option. Original, OEM and refurbished screens differ.
  • Frame. On some models the screen comes with its frame.

General screen price factors are in mobile phone screen repair cost.

03What to watch for with compatible screens

Some compatible screens for AMOLED phones are made with LCD technology. On these, colours and brightness can look different and the in-display fingerprint sensor may not work. At Cep Market the options and their differences are explained before approval; the replaced part is invoiced in your name. Details are on our screen replacement page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Why is a Super AMOLED screen priced differently from LCD?

The panel technology and production differ; curved and high-resolution models also change the work.

02

What happens if an LCD screen is fitted to an AMOLED phone?

The phone works, but colours may look different and the in-display fingerprint may not work. We explain the difference before approval.

03

Will a new screen have burn-in?

A new panel has no ghosting; it can develop over time where the same image stays for long periods.

04

Will a screen replacement delete my data?

Data is usually preserved during a repair; still, you need to back up your data before the repair starts (backups are the customer’s responsibility).

Phone works but the screen is black: what to do

If your phone rings or vibrates but the screen is black, the phone is on; the problem is the screen or its connection. Force restart and charge it first. Shine a torch close to the screen in the dark: a faint picture means a backlight fault. If it started after a drop or liquid, the screen is usually replaced.
