Phone screen flickers then goes black: connection or panel?

If the screen flickers and then goes completely black, the most common causes are a loose screen connection or a wearing panel. Check whether it changes when you press lightly, when the phone warms up or at a certain brightness. If the flicker shows in a screenshot too, the software is at fault.

02Software steps first

  1. Restart. Clears temporary glitches.
  2. Update. Software bugs can be fixed by updating.
  3. Check the app. If it only happens in one app, update or remove it.
  4. Auto-brightness. Turn it off and try; a sensor glitch can make brightness jump.

If the flicker started after a drop or changes when pressed, the screen cable may be loose; if the panel is worn, the screen is replaced.
