3 common iPhone battery problems and how to deal with them

The three most common iPhone battery problems are quick drain, unexpected shutdowns and overheating while charging. Each is checked in a different place: Settings › Battery, Battery Health, and the charging surroundings and adapter. If Battery Health recommends “Service”, a battery replacement comes into question.

02Overheating while charging

Getting a little warm while charging is normal. If the phone gets too hot to hold:

  1. Remove the case. A thick case makes it harder for heat to escape.
  2. Change the surroundings. Do not charge in the sun or on a pillow or blanket.
  3. Avoid heavy use while charging. Games, video and navigation add heat.
  4. Try another adapter and cable. Test with a sound, compatible adapter.

When an iPhone gets too warm, it can pause or limit charging to protect itself; charging resumes once it cools down.
