01What does Fastboot mean on Xiaomi?
Fastboot is a maintenance screen that the phone opens instead of the normal Android start-up. From this screen, system software (a ROM) can be installed when the phone is connected to a computer. The screen usually shows a rabbit mascot and the word FASTBOOT. Seeing it does not by itself mean the phone is broken.
02Why does a phone get stuck in Fastboot?
- Buttons pressed by accident. Pressing volume down and power together while the phone is off opens Fastboot, even in a pocket.
- An interrupted update. If the battery dies during an update, the system can be left incomplete.
- Damaged system files. Incompatible software or a faulty change can stop the phone from starting.
- A hardware problem. Rarely, a storage or board fault stops the phone from reaching the system.
03How to exit the Fastboot screen
- Hold the power button. Keep holding until the phone restarts; on some models this takes 15–20 seconds.
- Charge and wait. If the battery is very low, the phone may not finish starting. Charge it for a while and try again.
- Try the recovery screen. With the phone off, press volume up and power together and choose reboot from the menu. The button combination can differ on some models.
- Unplug the cable. If the phone is connected to a computer, unplug it and restart.
04Flashing a Fastboot ROM: what to keep in mind
A Fastboot ROM reinstalls the phone’s system software from a computer, using Xiaomi’s Mi Flash tool, but the bootloader must be unlocked first. Unlocking and flashing erase all data on the phone.
