Can a phone with a burnt motherboard be repaired?

Many faults described as a “burnt motherboard” can be repaired without replacing the whole board. A shorted component, an oxidised area or a burnt chip is repaired under a microscope. Whether repair is possible and what happens to the data is confirmed at diagnosis.
