How to convert video to audio (MP3) on iPhone

To turn your own video into an audio file on iPhone, use the Encode Media action in the Shortcuts app with the Audio Only option. The built-in tools produce M4A instead of MP3; M4A plays on most devices. Only convert content that is yours or that you have permission to use.

01Creating the shortcut

  1. New shortcut. Create a new shortcut in Shortcuts.
  2. Input. Turn on showing it in the share sheet and receiving media.
  3. Encode Media. Add the action and turn on Audio Only.
  4. Save. Add the Save File action at the end.
  5. Use it. Share the video from Photos and pick the shortcut.

Action names vary by iOS version.
