Does a phone motherboard replacement delete data?

If the motherboard is replaced entirely, the data does not move to the new board; photos and contacts only return from a backup (iCloud on iPhone, a Google account on Android, or a computer). So first we check whether the existing board can be repaired; then data is often kept, but this cannot be guaranteed.
