How do you open an iPhone back cover? What to know

An iPhone’s back is not a cover users can open. From iPhone 8 onwards the back is glass and sealed with adhesive; most repairs are done from the screen side. On some newer models the back glass is designed to come off separately, but it still needs special tools, heat and adhesive.

02Before opening it yourself

  1. Know the risks. The back glass can crack and the wireless charging part can be damaged.
  2. Sealing. Once the adhesive is broken, water resistance is no longer factory level.
  3. Warranty. An opened phone can fall out of warranty.
  4. Diagnosis. First find out whether the repair really needs the back opened.
