Ink spreading on a Samsung screen: what to do while the stain grows

On a Samsung AMOLED screen, an ink-like stain starts as a black, purple or green blot when the inside of the panel is damaged, and it can spread over time. While the stain grows, back up your data if touch still works; do not press on the screen and keep the phone away from heat. The fix is a screen replacement.

02While the stain grows

  1. Back up. While touch works, back up under Settings › Accounts and backup; the menu name can vary with the One UI version.
  2. Do not press. Pressing on the stain can make it spread faster.
  3. Keep it away from heat. Do not leave it in the sun or somewhere hot.
  4. Case. Avoid a tight case or wallet case that presses on the screen.
