iPhone battery calibration: is it needed, and how?

An iPhone battery usually does not need calibration; iOS measures the capacity itself and recalibrates when needed. Only if the percentage is wrong — the phone turns off at 30% or stays at 100% for long — can one full charge and full use cycle help. Calibration does not renew a worn battery.

02The calibration cycle

  1. Charge fully. Charge to 100% and leave it plugged in a little longer.
  2. Use it until it turns off. Use the phone normally until it shuts down.
  3. Charge without interruption. Charge to 100% while off without unplugging.
  4. Watch. Turn it on and watch the reading for a day; do not repeat more than once a month.
