iPhone charging port replacement: cost and process

01Signs of a faulty charging port

  • It does not charge at all. Charging does not start even with another cable and adapter.
  • The cable sits loosely. The plug slips out or wobbles in the port.
  • It charges only at an angle. Charging starts when you bend the cable and stops when you let go.
  • The computer does not detect the iPhone. The data connection starts and then drops.
  • Accessory warnings. “This accessory may not be supported” appears often.

02Cleaning or replacement?

Pocket dust and lint build up in the port over time; the plug does not seat fully and charging does not start. In that case, careful cleaning fixes it. If the problem continues after cleaning, the port is oxidised or the pins are damaged, it needs replacing.
