- Lint in the port can stop the cable seating.
- With the accessory warning, try another cable first.
- Remove lint gently with a wooden toothpick.
- On many iPhones the port shares a cable with the bottom microphone.
- If the port is fine, the charging IC is checked.
01Check the port first
- Shine a light. Look into the port with a torch; there may be trapped lint or dust.
- Clean gently. Pull the lint outwards with a wooden toothpick.
- Plug in. If the cable now goes in deeper than before, the problem may be solved.
- Try another cable. A damaged or incompatible cable also stops charging.
02Lightning and USB-C iPhones
Older iPhone models have a Lightning port and newer ones USB-C. Signs of wear are similar for both: the cable feels loose, charging cuts out when it moves, a computer does not recognise the phone. The “This accessory may not be supported” warning is often caused by an uncertified or damaged cable; try another one.
03If the port needs replacing
| Fact | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The port is part of a bottom cable | On many models the bottom microphone and antenna link are on the same cable |
| Liquid contact | Corrosion needs cleaning |
| If the port is fine | The charging IC is checked |
