- With Zoom on, the screen can enlarge and pan by itself.
- With VoiceOver on, touches work differently.
- Voice Control can mistake nearby sounds for commands.
- If these are off, it may be a touch fault.
- Restart and update iOS first.
01Check the accessibility settings first
Some features under Settings › Accessibility can make the screen seem to move unexpectedly:
| Feature | Sign | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Zoom | The screen enlarges and pans | Double-tap with three fingers or turn it off |
| VoiceOver | A tap selects instead of opening | Turn it off or ask Siri to turn it off |
| Voice Control | It acts when it hears sound | Turn it off |
| Switch Control | A frame moves around the screen | Turn it off |
Menu names can differ slightly by iOS version.
02Then simple steps
- Restart. A temporary software glitch often clears with a restart.
- Update iOS. From Settings › General › Software Update.
- Remove the protector. A lifted or cracked screen protector can register as touches.
- Remove the case. A case pressing on the edges can trigger the screen.
03If it is hardware
If the settings are off and the screen still moves by itself without the protector and case, the touch layer, the screen or its connection may be faulty. Fixes for a screen that taps by itself are in iPhone ghost touch fix, and the screen options on our screen replacement page.
