iPhone touch screen tapping by itself: how to fix it

If your iPhone screen taps, opens apps or scrolls by itself, first force restart it and remove the screen protector. If Settings › Accessibility › Touch › Touch Accommodations is on, touch behaves differently. If it started after a screen replacement, the fitted part may be mismatched or faulty.

01Step-by-step fix

  1. Force restart. Volume up, volume down, then hold the side button.
  2. Update. Settings › General › Software Update.
  3. Protector and case. Remove both and wipe the screen with a dry cloth.
  4. Touch Accommodations. Turn off Settings › Accessibility › Touch › Touch Accommodations if it is on.
  5. Unplug it. If it only happens while charging, try another charger.
