iPhone screen turns off when touching near the front camera

An iPhone has a proximity sensor next to the front camera; during a call, the screen goes dark when this area is covered, which is normal. If the screen also turns off outside calls, a protector may be covering the sensor or the sensor may be faulty. After a screen replacement, check the sensor connection.

  1. Remove the protector. A thick or tinted protector can cover the sensor.
  2. Clean it. Wipe the front camera area with a dry cloth.
  3. Test it. Call someone and hold the phone to your ear; the screen should go dark.
  4. Ask the shop. If it started after a screen replacement, go back to the shop that did it.
