- Older iPhones have a Ring / Silent switch on the side; many models from iPhone 15 Pro onwards have an Action button.
- A tight or thick case can keep pressing the button; remove it and try.
- If the Action button is set to silent mode, an accidental press silences the phone.
- Until the button is repaired, AssistiveTouch lets you control silent mode on screen.
- Back up your data before the repair.
01Try these first
- Remove the case. A case pressing the button is the most common cause.
- Flip the switch a few times. It may free trapped dirt and dust.
- Check the Action button. In Settings › Action Button, check the assigned action or choose another one.
- Restart. This clears software glitches.
- Turn on AssistiveTouch. With Settings › Accessibility › Touch › AssistiveTouch you can toggle silent mode on screen.
Menu names vary by iOS version.
02Likely cause by symptom
