iTunes not recognising iPhone: computer will not connect

If iTunes or Finder does not see your iPhone, unlock the iPhone and accept the “Trust This Computer?” prompt first. Try another cable and USB port and restart both devices. On a Mac the iPhone appears in Finder; on Windows in iTunes or the Apple Devices app; update the software.

  1. Unlock. Unlock the iPhone and leave it on the Home Screen.
  2. Trust. Tap Trust on the “Trust This Computer?” prompt.
  3. Cable and port. Try another cable and a port directly on the computer.
  4. Restart. Restart the iPhone and the computer.
  5. Update. Update macOS on a Mac, or iTunes or the Apple Devices app on Windows.
  6. Driver. On Windows, update the Apple Mobile Device USB driver in Device Manager.
