- Try the headphones on another phone: if one side still fails, the headphones are the problem.
- Check that the phone’s audio balance (left / right) is centred.
- On wired headphones, gently move the cable near the plug; if sound cuts in and out, the cable is broken.
- For wireless earbuds, forget and re-pair them and charge both sides.
- If other headphones also play on one side only, the phone’s headphone jack should be checked.
01Is it the headphones or the phone?
- Try another device. Plug the headphones into another phone or a computer.
- Try other headphones. Plug different headphones into your phone.
- Compare. If the headphones fail on one side everywhere, they are at fault; if every pair fails on one side in your phone, the phone’s jack is at fault.
02Wired headphones
- A broken cable. Cables break most often near the plug and the earpiece; if moving the cable brings sound back, it is broken.
- The plug does not seat fully. A thick case can stop the plug going all the way in.
- A dirty jack. Dust in the phone’s headphone jack disrupts the contact.
03Wireless earbuds
- Charge. Make sure both sides are charged; wipe the contacts in the case with a dry cloth.
- Pairing. Forget the earbuds in Bluetooth settings and pair them again.
- Audio balance. Check that the left / right balance in accessibility settings is centred.
