Turning off “blind mode”: TalkBack and VoiceOver

The so-called “blind mode” is the screen reader: TalkBack on Android, VoiceOver on iPhone. While on, one tap selects and a double tap opens, so the phone feels unusable. Holding both volume keys for a few seconds on Android, or pressing the side button three times or asking Siri on iPhone, usually turns it off.

02Turning it off in settings

  1. Open Settings. Tap the icon once to select it, then double-tap to open.
  2. Accessibility. Scroll with two fingers and open Accessibility the same way.
  3. TalkBack on Android, VoiceOver on iPhone. Open the section, select the switch and double-tap.
  4. Confirm. On Android, confirm the warning with a double tap too.

Menu names vary by brand and version.
