Android phone stuck on the boot screen: what to do

If your Android phone is stuck on the boot screen, force restart it and try safe mode first. If it starts in safe mode, an installed app is the cause. A factory reset from the recovery menu deletes data; if you have no backup, leave that step to a repair centre.

  1. Force restart. Hold power and volume down until the phone restarts.
  2. Safe mode. Hold volume down while the logo shows during start-up; on many models this opens safe mode.
  3. Remove apps. If it starts in safe mode, remove recently installed apps and restart normally.
  4. Charge it. A very weak battery can shut the phone down while starting; charge for 30 minutes.
