Blurry phone camera: how to fix it

If the camera takes blurry photos, first clean the lens and remove the case; fingerprints and the case edge are common causes. For blurry close shots, check the macro setting. If the lens glass is cracked, or focus fails after a drop or strong vibration (e.g. a motorcycle mount), the glass or module needs replacing.

01Step-by-step checks

  1. Clean the lens. Wipe it gently with a microfibre cloth.
  2. Remove the case. The case edge or a camera protector can get into the shot.
  3. Focus. Tap the subject on the screen to focus.
  4. Macro setting. On supported iPhone models, check Settings › Camera › Macro Control.
  5. Another app. If it is blurry in another camera app too, the hardware is the problem.
