Computer not recognising a Samsung phone: fix

If your computer does not see your Samsung phone, unlock the phone first and set the USB option in the notification to File transfer. Charge-only cables do not carry data; try a data cable and another USB port. On Windows, install the Samsung USB driver. If the phone does not charge either, the port should be checked.

  1. Unlock. Unlock the screen after connecting the phone.
  2. File transfer. Tap the USB option in the notification panel and choose File transfer.
  3. Allow access. Confirm the access prompt on the phone.
  4. Change the cable. Try a cable that can transfer data and another USB port.
  5. Driver. On Windows, install the Samsung USB driver from Samsung’s official site.
  6. Another computer. Try another computer to see whether the phone or the computer is at fault.
