How to factory reset a phone

A factory reset returns the phone to factory settings and deletes all data. Back up first, then sign out of the account (Apple Account on iPhone, Google account on Android); otherwise the phone asks for the old account’s password after the reset. On iPhone use Settings › General › Transfer or Reset; on Android, Reset.

01Before the reset

  1. Back up. Back up to iCloud on iPhone, to your Google account or the maker’s cloud backup on Android (HUAWEI Cloud on Huawei), or to a computer.
  2. Sign out. Sign out of your Apple Account on iPhone or your Google account on Android.
  3. Remove cards. Take out the SIM and memory card.
  4. Charge it. Do not let the battery run out during the reset.
