How to open a Samsung back cover: old and new models

On older Samsung models the plastic back cover comes off easily with a fingernail from the slot at the edge. On newer Galaxy models the back is glass or composite and glued to the frame; it needs heat and special tools, and opening it wrongly cracks it and breaks the water seal.

02How to open a removable cover

  1. Turn the phone off. Remove the case.
  2. Find the slot. Locate the small notch at the edge of the cover.
  3. Lift with a fingernail. Gently separate the cover along the edge.
  4. Refitting. Press the cover in all along the edges.

Can I open the back of a new Samsung myself?

Not recommended. The back is glued; it needs heat and special tools, and opening it wrongly cracks the glass and breaks the seal.
