iPhone battery swollen: what should I do now?

If your iPhone battery has swollen, unplug the phone at once, turn it off if you can and leave it on a cool, non-flammable surface. Do not press on the screen or back and do not open the phone yourself. Then have the battery replaced as soon as possible; the longer it waits, the more it strains the screen and frame.

01Do this straight away

  1. Unplug it. Charging further can make the swelling worse.
  2. Turn it off. Switch the phone off and stop using it.
  3. Put it somewhere safe. Leave it on a cool, non-flammable surface, away from sunlight and heat.
  4. Carry it with care. Do not carry it in a pocket or a tight bag where it can be squeezed.
  5. Bring it in. The battery should be replaced as soon as possible.

If the screen still works, back up to iCloud or a computer first. Data is usually preserved during a repair; still, back up your data before the repair. If the screen does not turn on, do not force it; you can back up after the replacement.
