My phone cannot see any Wi-Fi networks: what to do

If your phone cannot see any Wi-Fi networks, first find out whether the problem is the phone or the router: if another device sees networks, it is the phone. A restart and resetting network settings fix most software issues; if the Wi-Fi switch will not turn on or stays grey, the hardware should be checked.

01Step-by-step fix

  1. Try another device. If another phone sees networks, the router is fine.
  2. Toggle airplane mode. Then restart the phone.
  3. Set date and time to automatic. A wrong date can affect connections.
  4. Reset network settings. On iPhone: Settings › General › Transfer or Reset › Reset › Reset Network Settings; on Android: Settings › System › Reset options.
  5. Update the software. Install any pending update.
