Phone flash stays on or keeps blinking: how to fix it

If your phone’s flash stays on, usually the torch was left on or an app is using the camera. If it blinks with notifications, the “flash notifications” setting is on. If the flash stays on with these settings off, the flash module or board should be checked.

01Step-by-step fix

  1. Turn off the torch. From Control Centre on iPhone or the notification panel on Android.
  2. Turn off flash notifications. iPhone: Settings › Accessibility › Audio & Visual › LED Flash for Alerts; Android: flash notification in Accessibility.
  3. Close apps. Close camera, torch or scanner apps.
  4. Restart. This resets stuck software.
  5. Update. Install any pending software update.
