Phone front camera not working: how to fix it

If the front camera will not open or shows black, first close and reopen the camera app, switch to the rear camera and back, and restart the phone. If it fails in only one app, check that app’s camera permission. If it fails everywhere, or started after a drop, the front camera module should be checked.

  1. Reopen the app. Close and reopen the camera, switch to the rear camera and back.
  2. Restart and update. Install the system update.
  3. Permissions. Turn on the camera permission for the app in Settings.
  4. Screen Time. On iPhone, check the camera is allowed in Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  5. Clean it. Wipe the front glass and the sensor area at the top with a dry cloth.
