Samsung camera not opening: how to fix it

If the camera on a Samsung phone will not open or shows “Camera failed”, first restart the phone, then force stop the Camera app and clear its cache. If it will not open in safe mode either, or it started after a drop or liquid, the camera module or its connection should be checked.

  1. Restart. Turn the phone off and on.
  2. Force stop. Settings › Apps › Camera › Force stop.
  3. Clear the cache. On the same screen, Storage › Clear cache.
  4. Camera settings. In the Camera app settings, choose “Reset settings”.
  5. Safe mode. If the camera opens in safe mode, remove recently installed apps.
  6. Update. Install any software update.
