Phone overheating and shutting down: what to do

A phone turns itself off to protect itself when it overheats. Gaming or navigation while charging, sun and thick cases are the most common causes. Unplug it, remove the case and let it cool somewhere shady. If it also gets hot when idle or switched off, the battery or board should be checked.
