My phone screen came off or went black: what now?

If the screen has come away from the frame, the most common cause is a swollen battery: do not charge the phone, do not press the screen and bring it in. If the screen is black but the phone rings or vibrates, it is working; force restart it, and if that does not help, the screen or its connection should be checked.

  1. Force restart. The button order depends on the model.
  2. Call it. Ask someone to call you; if it rings or vibrates, the phone is working.
  3. Back up. Connect it to a computer it trusted before and try a backup.
