- Accessibility filters such as “Reduce White Point” darken the screen.
- Power saving mode can limit brightness.
- When the phone gets hot, it lowers brightness by itself to protect the screen.
- Turn auto-brightness off and on to reset the sensor.
- If screenshots look normal but the screen is dark, the panel is the problem.
01Check the settings first
- Turn off screen filters. On iPhone: Settings › Accessibility › Display & Text Size › Reduce White Point; on Android: extra dim or colour filters in accessibility.
- Turn off power saving. Battery saving modes can limit brightness.
- Reset auto-brightness. Turn it off, set brightness to maximum, then turn it back on.
- Let the phone cool. A hot phone lowers brightness temporarily; leave it in the shade and check again.
- Check the protector. Privacy filter protectors make the screen look dark.
